Make It Work OR Make It Fun

We shouldn’t teach great books; we should teach a love of reading.

                                                                                                    B.F. Skinner

Your children will believe what you show them. Read for your own pleasure. Read to them. Read as a family. Make books important and accessible. Keep a well-stocked bookcase in each child’s room, making sure they are books of interest and age appropriate.

Switch it up with ebooks. Amazon offers Cloud Reader, a free app to download on an assortment of devices. Some kids like ebooks…some don’t, but it’s always fun to try something new. Make a comment on at the end of this post and I’ll send you a free audio book download from Audible.

What about letting your child pick out a magazine subscription?

I’d like to thank the Timothy C. Hauenstein Reynolds Township Library and staff. They draw young people with their year-round programs designed to ignite interest and cultivate readers. Read next week’s post to see more of their fun learning environment.

P.S. Never make reading a punishment.
